As the chilly nights slowly but surely draw in, and the warmer clothes get dragged out of the back of our cupboards, the new season doesn’t have to spell the end of our social lives. Jazz is the perfect antidote to the winter blues and so in the hopes of inspiring you all to leave your houses and get out and about – here are My Cyprus Insider’s selection of top places to listen to jazz on the island.
1.Library Bar, Limassol
Library Bar has fast made a name for itself of the jazz scene as a leading place for excellent live jazz music with both local and international bands and musicians.
The bar hosts a highly popular jazz night every Wednesday, which has become such a firm favourite on the Limassol social calendar that you now need a reservation to guarantee a spot to sit. Library has seen a number of well-known jazz musicians perform in its cool, contemporary interior space including Giorgos Marinakis from Greece and many, many more.

2. Kafeneio 11, Nicosia
Kafeneio 11 has amassed a large group of loyal regulars since it opened in Nicosia’s old town a few years ago. The bar is popular not only for its authentic local atmosphere and friendly approach, but also for the quality of the musicians that play here.
The bar does a regular jazz on Thursday, with the Tasos Stylianou trio, however additional jazz nights with local and internationally renowned musicians are also organised on different days of the week.

3. ANANAS 8Bit Coffee, Paphos
Another firm favourite on the jazz circuit in Cyprus is ANANAS 8Bit in Paphos. Here, live music is integrated with interesting arts and cultural events, a great food and drinks line up and a friendly, warm and welcoming environment.
Local jazz musicians are often found here, playing concerts for the crowds as they sip on a glass of fine wine and enjoy the sounds and the surroundings.

4. Vino Cultura Wine Bar and Cellar, Nicosia
Talking of fine wines, nowhere merges smooth jazz vibes, with an endless selection of the best wines available in Cyprus, like Vino Cultura Wine Bar and Cellar.
This popular local haunt for wine fanatics, has the perfect interior design to suit the sultry sound of jazz, with wine bottles lining the walls and candlelit tables. Jazz enthusiasts can also enjoy a bite to eat as they listen to some top musicians and bands entertain them.

5. Mbouat, Limassol
Although Mbouat in Limassol only hosts jazz nights about once a month, the cosy little bar has gathered quite a following of jazz fans who come to listen to the musicians and bands that play here. Its stone interior and leafy outdoor garden make the perfect backdrop for atmospheric jazz nights and you can guarantee you’ll be welcomed with friendliness.
The little spot also has a great selection of food and drinks to keep your palette amused as you enjoy the music.

6. Academy 32, Nicosia
Academy 32 is one of those places that you don’t always remember exists, tucked away by the Venetian walls of Nicosia, and yet, the cute and cosy little bar has long remained one of Nicosia’s best hidden live jazz music secrets.
If you manage to find the bar, tucked away down a narrow set of white washed stairs, in an old house near the agora market, you will find yourself in an alternate jazz universe, where the décor is musically inspired and you’ll often get to hear impromptu live jamming session – spontaneous and usually unplanned – along with many other scheduled performances.

7. Technopolis 20, Paphos
Technopolis 20 organise all kinds of fantastic unique events throughout the year in their gorgeous converted traditional old Cypriot mansion space – and jazz events are no exception.
If there is an international jazz group doing a tour of Cyprus, you can be sure that they will make a stop at Technopolis 20. The creative team that run the space have excellent taste and their choices reflect in the crowds that gather here in the knowledge that each and every event – jazz sessions included – will be well worth the trip out!

8. Vinylio, Limassol
Wine and jazz go hand in hand at Vinylio in Limassol. The bar hosts regular jazz nights with popular local bands such as Mood Indigo and Ioanna Troullidou & George Morfitis.
The warm, atmospheric interior is an ideal retreat from the increasingly chilly evenings, with candlelight flickering across the walls and a fully stocked bar waiting to be explored. Visitors are spoilt for choice with the excellent selection of wines, and cocktails are also available for those who prefer something a little more exotic with their jazz.

9. Tudor Inn
Located in the old Turkish quarters of Larnaca, very close to the sea, Tudor Inn is one of those places where drinkers and music lovers can sit back and soak in the atmosphere as they enjoy music with friends.
The cosy little spot is richly decorated in with quirky antiques hanging on the arched walls and the garden in the back is also a great spot for live music evenings when the weather is warmer. Tudor Inn don’t do regular jazz nights, but when they do one, rest assured that it will be a good night with quality music in a wonderful and unique environment.

10. Sarah’s Jazz Club – coming soon
Although music lovers still have to wait a while longer before Sarah’s Jazz Club opens its doors in the capital, the new bar and exhibition space promises to quickly become the go-to spot for live jazz and blues on the island. Opened by local jazz singer Sarah Fenwick, the club is in good hands to guarantee quality music and is set to double up as an exhibition space for artists to display their works on the walls. Sarah will sing at her club every Friday, with a whole host of other local and international bands getting ready to grace the club once it opens. Watch this space.
