5 things to do with the whole family this September!

With September coming up we thought we’d put together a list of activities that you and the family can enjoy, have a peek! Courtesy of Cyprus Insider.

1. Embrace the animal kingdom
People don’t often realise just how many animal parks we have in Cyprus. Whether the young ones fancy riding on a camel, or a rather excited by the sound of exotic birds, there is much to capture their imagination.
From the popular Mazotos Camel Park, to the splendours of the Pafos Zoo and its lush surrounds, there’s always a spot to enjoy the animal world. And that’s not to forget the Ktima Georgiades Golden Donkeys farm, which is actually gearing up for a great festival at the end of May which should make for a great day out for all the family.

2. Have a fun sporty adventure
Get those adrenaline levels soaring with an outdoor adventure that you won’t forget. What’s great is that there are a few places you can head to that offer all sorts of fun activities within one space, just in case different family members want to try out different things.

Whether the gang fancies a bit of horse-riding, scuba diving, jeep tours of the island, boat hire & watersports, waterpark, a spot of archery or wall climbing, there’s plenty to keep everyone entertained.  The Sayious Adventure Park, has a great selection of activities like paint-balling, off road tours with buggies and drift go carting to keep you busy for hours. Then there’s the Spari Platres Adventure Park where kids can unleash their inner Tarzan as they swing through the trees to their heart’s content. The choice of where to go…is yours!

3. Embark on a long family walk
There is no better time than the present to all get your trainers on and head through the great outdoors if your children are old enough for a bit of a hike. Most teenagers love to explore, and adults will have the chance to enjoy a good bit of exercise on sometimes rough and rugged terrain. With several designated national parks, countless picturesque villages, and numerous historic sites to discover, walkers are spoilt for choice, while Cyprus also stands as the furthest easterly point of the European E4 long distance walking route. If you’re looking for a mountain adventure in Troodos, then read all about about some great nature trails that will get the whole family excited here. Obviously not suitable for really young kids, teenagers should absolutely love doing something a bit different in the rough and rugged outdoors!

4. Visit one of the island’s quaint museums
Many of us here in Cyprus often tend to think that the island doesn’t have as many museums as it should. But do a bit of research and you’ll be incredibly surprised by the fact that even the most far flung villages are often home to their own little museum, many of which uncover the secrets of the island’s culture, history and traditions in the most fascinating way.
Whether you want to find out how people lived years ago or learn more about cool traditional art, kids and adults alike should really enjoy the experience. Read more about some great country museums to visit here.

5. Pack your picnic basket for an outdoor treat
With the glorious spring weather luring us all into the great outdoors, there is nothing quite like all heading out for a picnic with your favourite treats in hand. And there are some great spots around the island to choose from, many in lush forest surrounds, and some even backed by magnificent lakes or dams, while others are only a stone’s throw from the seaside. Read about some great picnic sites in the My Cyprus Insider hot list here.
