Energy bills will be reduced by around 5% in December due to a drop in international fuel prices, Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) chief Othonas Theodoulou confirmed on Wednesday.
“Electricity costs will continue to fall for as long international fuel prices continue to decrease,” said Theodoulou, following a meeting with Citizens’ Alliance leader George Lillikas.
“The EAC is working intensely to reform the energy market,” he added.
Commenting on the power price reduction, Lillikas said he would be making further suggestions to the EAC regarding the energy reform plans.
“We believe this is a step in the right direction and we will fully support the EAC as long as it continues to offer quality services to consumers at the lowest cost possible”.
Lillikas further expressed hope that the EAC remains under the control of the state and does not fall into the hands of the private sector.
